‘Violet World’
Take a dip inside the mind of Raleigh, NC based artist KastleViolet as he delivers a passionate three-track single on love, loyalty, and self.
GENRE: HIP-HOP/RAP
Raleigh, NC’s KastleViolet takes us on a trip into the entrails of his mind, blending his passionate disposition, love of love, and his reflective personality in his latest project ‘Violet World’. This three-track single features rhythmic, R&B-inspired beats that complement the sentiment hidden in KastleViolet’s flow.
Like many rappers in their early stages, KastleViolet began his musical endeavors on SoundCloud in 2015. At the time he went by the name Warlord Caleb, an alias that served, more or less, to draw attention to his more assertive persona. A year later, Kastle’s favorite artist, Yung Lean made a post on Twitter releasing his newest album by the name ‘Warlord’. This furthermore excited the ‘Memoirs of Mars’ rapper to keep his name, along with an impromptu shoutout from a friend while he was walking through his high school parking lot.
Seven years have passed and KastleViolet has released 14 singles/EPs and one full-length album ‘Warlord Wept’. It’s no doubt that he’s been cooking up in the studio. Some of his beats are produced by musical comrade Hooshms, but most of them are created by producers from all over. He subscribes to those he likes and gets notifications when they release new tracks. He only creates with the beats that help him reach flow state, as falling deep into the zone of creation is very important to his process.
‘Violet World’ is a physical representation of KastleViolet reaching flow state. From the first track ‘Attack! Attack! Attack!’ listeners can tell from the guitar instrumental that introduces this single, there is a soft and passionate story in store, even behind all the big-body-talk. There’s a subtle contrast between lyrics, delivery, and production that’s quite compelling. In the chorus he mentions his love of laying up with his girl, whose body must be soft as rain to be compared to satin: “I like silk all on my body/ Laying shawty on my lap”. He shows the flipside of this rather sensual character in a later verse: “I guess it’s back to blacking out/ She say that I’m acting out/ I pop out with passion/ Got these pussies playing passing now.”
KastleViolet describes these layers as a manifestation of his Bipolar Disorder. “I think my personality is very relaxed. I’m kind of like an energy reflector. If it’s good energy then I will always try and give double the good energy back, but that comes with the curse of if it’s bad energy then I can’t let it go.” It seems like a constant theme throughout the single, his reflective personality. It may not be purposeful, but each title conveys this assertive and hard energy, yet every beat is subtle and laid back in nature. Even his tone is perfectly subdued. Whether this is a creative choice or coincidence, KastleViolet’s creating a style that is quite distinct and true to him. Based on his discography and lyrics, this artist definitely has more to say. We foresee an album coming in the near future. The only question left is when.
